Welcome to the #JunkFreeKids Movement.
My name is Jade Glab and I am the founder of Junk Free Kids, the campaign empowering young people to take control of their health before it takes control of them. I am also a student at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, a classically trained musician, and the reigning Miss New Jersey, who has a chance to become the next Miss America.
But before I was any of these things, I was an 11-year-old afflicted with extremely high cholesterol. Growing up, I ate a typical “kid-friendly” diet consisting of junk food in large quantities, yet very few fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins. As any 11-year-old would, I sought out fun wherever and whenever I could. Bright colors, amusing graphics, and upbeat music featured on junk food products and their digital advertisements captivated me, which led me to discover my mission.
My mission with Junk Free Kids is to utilize the same tactics used by junk food marketers that encourage kids to eat junk, to encourage kids to eat healthily. Through interactive experiences featuring bright colors, captivating graphics, and upbeat music, I am able to give kids a proper introduction to nutrition—in that eating healthy food can be just as fun and enjoyable as eating junk food.
Peace, Love, and Veggies,
